The Proving House used to be an industrial premises where heavy plant equipment would be made and repaired. In 2003 it was purchased and converted by Children’s Scrapstore into a home for many community minded organisations.
In keeping with the operation of Children’s Scrapstore which takes unwanted but useable waste from industry which is safe to give to children to play with, the building has both an environmental and child development emphasis within it.
For the environment we have on site:

| The Better Food Company | - an organic supermarket and café. |
| Children’s Scrapstore | - making wastethings playthings. |
For Child support we have:
| Play and Early Years Training Unit | offering professional support and information to play professionals. |
| Children and Young Peoples Services | owned by Bristol City Council this is the centre for childminding support in the City. |
| supporting all voluntary sector out of school provision with professional support, information and legislative guidance. | |
| Children’s Scrapstore & Artrageous | providing resources and saving money to all children’s groups and educational establishments. |
There are lots of plans for the building to be improved and to become a centre of environmental excellence by installing all of the power generation and structural benefits available with only a tiny carbon footprint to be seen.
