If you’ve got an FAQ, then this is the place for you!

General

What does Children’s Scrapstore do?

We are a reuse charity dedicated to helping businesses divert reusable waste away from landfill/energy recovery, to help improve art and play opportunities for children, young people and adults. We have lots of bits and bobs going on, but our main services include an Artshop where you can buy a variety of art and craft supplies, crafting events for all ages, typically held in our scrap-tastic Playroom, and our Warehouse where you can buy and donate scrap. We also have a fantastic Play Team who run play sessions at schools and events, create PlayPods, offer mentoring, and more. Feel free to peruse our website for more details on the different services we offer.

When are you open?

We are open Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm, except from Thursdays where we open at 11am. Please note we close for all bank holidays. We are also closed between Christmas and New Year, but do check our socials around this time for more specific times and dates.

We are also closed on Tuesday 26th March 2024 for our annual stock take.

Where are you based?

Our address is Children's Scrapstore, Scrapstore House,  21 Sevier Street, St Werburghs, Bristol BS2 9LB. See here for a map and contact details.

Do you have parking?

We do have a carpark, however this does tend to get quite busy, and therefore we cannot guarantee onsite parking. There are lots of opportunities for on-street parking however. We have two disabled parking bays located just outside the front entrance.

Are you accessibility friendly?

There are lots of ways in which we are accessibility friendly, or can adapt to be accessible for specific needs. Please see our accessibility page for more information.

How can I support your charity?

You can support Children’s Scrapstore by shopping in the ArtShop, coming to our events, paying for membership or a Supporters Plus card. You can also make a donation here.

Membership

How do I become a Member?

Membership is open to any group or individual working or volunteering with a group of children or adults in creative, play, care, educational, therapeutic or community settings. There are different prices for Membership depending on specific circumstances, so do visit our Membership page if you’d like more details. Once purchased, you will be allowed access to the warehouse, and to shop for scrap, for a whole year. Scrap pricing is a suggested donation of £6 for a basket-full, or £20 for a trolley-full.

What does having a Membership mean for me?

Having a Membership means annual access to the Warehouse, and the ability to purchase a trolley-full of scrap, something exclusive to Members. The Membership can also be put in the name of the charity or organisation it belongs to, meaning anyone from that organisation can make use of it, as long as they remember to bring the card!

Do you offer a Student Membership?

We do! For £12, you will get all the benefits of a regular Membership. Valid student ID will be need to be presented to approve this, we will only accept official ID’s from the place of study.

If I don’t qualify for Membership, can I still access the Warehouse to purchase scrap?

Yes! If you don’t qualify for Membership, you can instead purchase a Supporters Plus card. For £10, you will be allowed 6 visits to the warehouse, where you can get a basket of scrap for a £6 donation with each visit.

Alternatively, you can get an Artshop Loyalty card, which allows customers to a basket-full of scrap, for a £6 donation, from the warehouse, after making five individual purchases in the ArtShop of £6 or more.

Events

Do you run free events?

We do! Every 4th Saturday of the month, we run our Super Saturday event, alongside events at St Werburgh’s City Farm, and St Werburgh’s Community Centre. All of these are absolutely free, check our website and socials for more information closer to the time. We also run and get involved in other free events, such as our Reuse Fair and Playday; click here for more details on all our free events.

How can I book for events?

You can book through the events page of our website for all our paid events.

What events do you run?

We run a variety of events, including weekly Messy Play sessions, half-term and holiday sessions, private parties, and more. You can find all of these on our website, or drop us a message with any ideas or suggestions.

Are your events accessible?

Most of our events can be tailored to suit specific requirements, do get in contact to fill in a form about yours or your child’s specific needs, and to discuss it further if necessary. Most of our events will take place in our Playroom, which is accessibility friendly. Please see our accessibility page for more information.

My child is has specific allergies, can you adapt your events to cater to this?

If your child has an allergen, please let us know when booking at least 48 hours in advance, so that we can adapt our session if necessary. We can usually cater for most allergens, however, we often use ingredients containing gluten in our Messy Play sessions. If this will cause your child a problem, and you let us know when booking at least 48 hours in advance, we will remove any gluten containing ingredients from the session plan. However we cannot guarantee there will be no traces in the room.

Do you run workshops and events for adults?

Yes! Check our events calendar for any upcoming workshops, or alternatively, you can hire us to run workshops for your events! We can run a variety of events, so do get in touch to discuss your ideas.

Can I hire events spaces?

Of course! We have multiple spaces to hire, all with a range of possibilities. Book now through our website, or get in touch to discuss your ideas.

Do you host birthday parties?

We do indeed, if you’d like a crafty birthday party in our Playroom, then look no further! We will run arts and crafts events, to a theme if you’d like, with time for food and cake if you would like to provide this. All attendees, as well as parents/carers, will also get access to the warehouse to get a basket of scrap for a £6 suggested donation, if they like. Get in touch now to plan a scrappy celebration.

Scrap

Where does your scrap come from?

We collect and re-use industrial by-products, surplus materials and waste, for free, from the business community. In doing so we ensure environmental compliance and support corporate social responsibility policy. We also accept donations from the public, big and small.

What scrap can I donate?

Please see here for what we can’t take, and what scrap we currently love. Otherwise, check in-store, or on our socials for updates on what scrap we are currently looking for. We advise checking with us before bringing your scrap donations, as if it is not something we can accept, it will be your responsibility to take it away. We reserve the right to refuse any scrap donations, within reason. If you cannot find the answer online and can’t make it in-store, feel free to contact us directly.

What scrap do you currently have in?

Our scrap is constantly changing so it’s difficult to to track what we currently have! Please see here for examples of common scrap we may have in, and what we’ve had in the past. Scrap comes and goes very quickly, so we suggest grabbing something when you can rather than coming back for it another time. If you are after something specific, you can call ahead to ask if it is in stock, but please note that we cannot hold anything.
