Accessibility

At Children’s Scrapstore, we strive to be as accessible as possible, throughout our events, warehouse, and everything in between. If you have any suggestions on how we can be more accessible, do feel free to contact us with your ideas. To understand our building and explore it at home, check out our virtual tour.

Bristol Children's Scrapstore accessible carpark with disabled parking bays

Parking

When you arrive at Children’s Scrapstore, you will first be greeted with our car-park. Although we are technically on the first floor, as Better Foods is downstairs at street level, we are fully accessible, as everything is on the same level from the car-park onwards. We have 2 disabled parking spaces, just out the front of the Scrapstore itself. Occasionally we may have bollards out in the car park for an event, so if these are blocking a disabled space, or both spaces are in use, do feel free to park as close as you need to the doors, and come inside to chat with us.

Lifts and Ramps

As well as stairs, we have a ramp at the front of the Scrapstore, allowing you to access the front doors. Once you are inside, the Artshop, Warehouse, and Playroom for events are all on the same floor, as is the customer toilet.

If you need to access upstairs, perhaps if you have booked one of our rooms, we have a lift in our foyer to take you up.

Toilets

Our customer toilet is situated at the back of our Artshop. This is a large accessible toilet, with hand rails, an emergency cord, and baby changing facilities.

We also have an accessible toilet with all the same features upstairs, for anyone using our upstairs rooms.

Events

We run a wide range of events; our events calendar can be found here. Most of our events can be tailored to suit specific requirements, do get in contact to discuss your own, or your child’s specific needs. Most of our events will take place in our Playroom, which is accessibility friendly and situated on the left-hand side of the back of our Artshop.

Bristol Children's Scrapstore's fun and decorated Playroom

We are keen that all children can take part in activities at Children's Scrapstore. If there is something you would like us to know about children attending a session in order to help their enjoyment and engagement, that isn't on our booking form, please download the form here and return it to us. If you already have a Play Support Form, Communication Plan or similar document please feel free to send us that, you can reply to the event booking confirmation email.

We strive to make our events as accessible as possible, so do contact us about any event, and we can discuss specific requirements and how we can help.

Regular Events Staff

When you attend one of our events, chances are you’ll meet one of our staff members below! Each session is run by at least one staff member, who are all fully trained and DBS checked. They will facilitate the whole session, however, most of our events are child/participant-led for you to create what you like. They are happy to help with anything, so always feel free to ask. Our events are occasionally facilitated or assisted by someone not listed below, so if you or the child(ren) you are bringing would be more comfortable knowing exactly who is running your event in advance, please contact us and we can let you know more information.

Warehouse

Front entrance of the colourful, scrap-filled Warehouse at Children’s Scrapstore, Bristol

To access our Warehouse, and get scrap for a suggested donation, you will need to either purchase a Membership if you are eligible, or a Supporters Plus Card otherwise. There are some exceptions to this, for example, if you are attending Messy Play, or a Children’s Scrapstore Birthday Party. If so, you will be notified of this in advance. Our Warehouse has accessible entry, and is situated on the right-hand side of the back of our Artshop.

You will be able to find baskets in our Artshop, and trolleys in foyer. Do ask a member of staff if you need help locating these. You will only be able to use a trolley for scrap if you are a Member, however, if you are unable to carry a basket for any reason, do feel free to place your basket inside a trolley. We ask for customers to use their basket like this, as our suggested donations are calculated by the basket-full.

Once you are inside the Warehouse, you will see lots of different bits of scrap that are available for a suggested donation. Everything on the Warehouse floor is available, except decorative pieces and display shelving. If you are unsure about whether an item is available to you, feel free to ask one of our members of staff. Any area not accessible to the public will be cordoned off, or display a no-entry sign.

We have lots of equipment to aid you in lifting and carrying items, so please ask a member of staff for assistance and don’t attempt to lift anything if it seems to heavy or difficult. We can also aid in transporting scrap to your vehicle if needed, so do feel free to ask.
