This procedure has been designated for your safety while you are in the building. Please ensure that you follow these steps should any fire related event occur.
On discovering a fire:
On discovering a fire of any size within any area of the building firstly:
· Move to the nearest marked fire exit where you will find a break glass alarm. Press the break the glass button so that the alarm sounds and exit the building.
· Proceed to the Assembly Point (see below).
On hearing the fire alarm:
Proceed immediately to the nearest fire exit and leave the building.
· Do not use the lift - it will be out of commission.
· Proceed to the Assembly Point (see below).
· Do not collect any items of personal or business use prior to leaving the building.
· Do not complete any task or work prior to leaving the building.
· Do not attempt to tackle the fire.
· Should you find yourself in a corridor or room filled with smoke, take the nearest fire exit immediately and attempt to cover your airway with a handkerchief or similar, while keeping as low as possible to the floor to stay below the smoke.
Exits:
There are two main routes out of the building - they are the two stairwells at both ends of the building down to their respective ground floor levels. There are additional exits on floors 0 and 1.
Safe Areas:
There are two safe areas on each floor for those with reduced mobility or those who cannot find a way out due to fire or damage to the exits.
Assembly Point:
The Assembly Point is the patio area to the right of the main car park gates by the wild garden.
For those using the fire exits at the far end of the building, please walk around the front of the building to the main car park once you have left the premises and join the others waiting there until a fire warden gives you further instructions.
